Data mining
Raindrop data mines your messages for attachments, videos, pictures and links. It then pulls out this media and shows it to you right away, rather than making you dig through messages to find the good stuff.
Raindrop is an ongoing, open-source, extensible, web messaging platform. Raindrop is a Mozilla Labs project. Raindrop treats messages from your friends and family differently than a notification from twitter. It prioritizes the messages you care about, and treats notifications as secondary information. This is similar to a Facebook notification, versus a Facebook message. Raindrop works with messages in your email alongside a large assortment of social networks. This is simply one iteration of what Raindrop could look like. The project is in its very early stages in terms of design and code, and is looking to find collaborators to help grow and expand this project. Raindrop is a participatory project trying to engage designers as well as programmers. As with all Mozilla projects it is 100% open source.
